Stuck by the old five-star 'invisible service'
This time when I came to Beijing for business, I booked the Beijing International Hotel with the mentality of trying out the old five-star brand. Originally, I only wanted its convenient location on the street in Chang'an. However, after staying for three days, what I remember most to this day are the detailed services that were not written on the promotional page.
On the day of check-in, I was dragging two large pieces of luggage and holding a hot steamed bun that I had just bought from the high-speed railway station. As soon as I walked to the hotel entrance, the doorman quickly came up and picked up my suitcase. Before I could ask where the elevator was, he turned to lead me to the lobby and specifically reminded me, "Your steamed bun is hot, be careful not to rub against your clothes. When I checked in, the front desk heard that I was coming to Beijing to watch the flag raising. Before I asked about the strategy, I took the initiative to hand over a handwritten note on which I marked the time to call early the next day, the best place to take a taxi at the door, and even the store where I could buy hot soybean milk on the way back after watching the flag raising was clearly marked, which was more considerate than my own strategy.
On the night of check-in, I changed my plan to 2 o'clock in the morning. I remembered that the white shirt I was going to wear the next day had coffee stains on it, so I called the laundry room with a trial mentality. I thought I would have to wait until the next day to get it, but in less than an hour, the waiter returned the ironed shirt to the room, even the small stains on the collar were cleaned up, and I secretly put a mint candy in the bag, afraid that I would stay up late and feel sleepy. The next day when I went out, I casually mentioned to the concierge that I wanted to find an old Pickled vegetables shop in Beijing. The concierge didn't directly search the navigation for me, but wrote me a 15 minute walk route, saying that the road could bypass the flow of people and pass an old locust tree, which was more comfortable than taking a taxi. I followed the route and really found the old Pickled vegetables shop hidden in the alley.
What surprised me the most was a small incident on the third day: I left my USB drive in my room when I left, and when I remembered, I was already on the subway to the high-speed railway station. With a try it out attitude, I called the hotel, but the front desk didn't ask me to turn back. Instead, they arranged for a concierge who happened to be going to Beijing Station to deliver the guest. Within ten minutes, the USB drive was delivered to me, and even the thank-you red envelope I was supposed to give was pushed back with a smile, saying, "This is all what we should do. On the day I left, I was waiting for the bus in the lobby. The spring breeze in Beijing was a bit cool, and when the waiter at the lobby bar passed by, he quietly handed me a cup of warm barley tea. Without saying much, he turned around and left, almost missing my thank you words.

This time I came to Beijing to attend a project meeting and specifically chose Beijing International Hotel on Chang'an Avenue as my destination. Landing at the Capital International Airport from Foshan and taking the airport bus directly to the hotel entrance, I was immediately caught in the eye of this three pointed hexagonal building - the 104 meter main building is particularly eye-catching along Chang'an Avenue. As one of the top ten buildings in Beijing in the 1980s, its sense of weight is unmatched by newly opened internet famous hotels.
When checking in, the front desk specifically reminded me that the area beneath my feet was the former site of the Ming and Qing Dynasty Imperial Examination Hall. Countless scholars completed their imperial examinations here, instantly adding a special historical significance to this stay. I live in the newly renovated administrative room on the 22nd floor. When I open the door, there is a panoramic french window. The glass is polished thoroughly. When I look up, I can see the cornices of the ruins of the Ming City Wall. When I lower my head, I can see the endless traffic on Chang'an Street. In the evening, the sunset is spread on the street, and even the contour of the distant International Trade Center is immersed in warm gold. The room features modern design mixed with a touch of Eastern aesthetics. The TOTO smart toilet and marble wet dry separation bathroom are all very new. The first day's drinks in the mini bar can also be enjoyed for free, and the details are all thoughtful with the old five-star rating.
The most surprising thing is the dining experience. The breakfast was in the Xiaoyun Hall on the first floor. I thought that the breakfast in the five-star hotel was the same Western style meal. Unexpectedly, there were full of Beijing flavor features here: fried liver, salty tofu pudding, fried coke rings, and even soup with pepper were cooked very well. I even got up half an hour early in the morning for two days in order to fill a bowl of hot fermented sour milk made from ground mung bean wow gold with coke rings. In the evening, I made an appointment with a friend at Chang'an 28 Rotating Restaurant on the top floor, which is the only rotating restaurant in the center of Beijing. After two hours of slow rotation, the aroma of steak mixed with the night view of Chang'an Avenue outside the window. Seeing the deep night from the beginning of the lights, even the pace of conversation slowed down.
The location of the hotel is really convenient. It takes only 5 minutes to walk to Beijing Station and 6 minutes to walk to Jianguomen Subway Station. Even if you are walking around Wangfujing, it takes more than ten minutes to reach. During the conference break, I strolled around the hotel just in time for the "Gongyuan Culture Season" event. In the lobby, there were intangible cultural heritage experiences such as Beijing embroidery and interior painting, as well as small games like throwing pots and flying flower orders. Even the tea gallery in the lobby bar was filled with the melody of guqin, completely devoid of the coldness of a business hotel.
The only small regret is that there are not many options for evening meals at the executive lounge, but it does not affect the overall experience at all. As a well-established hotel that has been in operation for nearly forty years, it has not deliberately followed the trend of internet celebrities, but has put the concept of "comfortable living" into practice - the bedding is soft and does not collapse, the concierge will take the initiative to reach out to you when they see you carrying something, and there is no need to wait for robots to take out food. The concierge will directly deliver it to your room.
On the day I left Beijing, I woke up early and watched the sunrise rise from the east side of Chang'an Avenue at the revolving restaurant on the 28th floor. Suddenly, I understood why so many people came to Beijing and still chose the name of the hotel. It embodies the historical heritage of old Beijing and hides the most genuine warmth of staying Beijing International Hotel.
